The Other Guys

This film was directed by Adam McKay and the main characters were Allen Gamble who was played by Will Ferrell and Terry Hoitz who was played by Mark Wahlberg. Terry Hoitz has been a long time cop but lost his high position and respect when he accidentally shot baseball superstar Derek Jeter. Allen Gamble is new on the job and is focused on desk work more than actual cop work.

This movie takes place in New York City and it follows the works on the NYPD. Terry Hoitz has been a long time cop and has skills but has lost his respect after he shot Derek Jeter. Allen Gamble enjoys doing his desk work and does not actually like the violence of the police job. As these two are partners it causes them to clash because of their difference in attitudes. As both of them try and track down a man for a minor crime they find themselves in the presence of a huge crime and they decide to pursue it. During this pursuit they get no help from any of the police department because they do not trust or respect them.

I really enjoyed this movie and I thought the actors and the storyline fit perfectly together. This movie had its funny parts along with serious and also action all at the same time which makes it a movie that can be enjoyable for many people. I also enjoyed the car chases and shootout scenes that were portrayed. The movie had me laughing throughout and it also had me hooked on the action scenes. I also really enjoyed how at the beginning of the movie the whole action and cop chasing is over exaggerated which is kind of poking fun at other action movies and I found this very interesting. A lot of the jokes in this movie were supposed to be thought on and figured out through outside references which I also enjoyed.

Overall, I felt as if this movie was great in terms of being a comedy because it kept me laughing throughout which I feel is ultimately the goal of comedy movies. At the same time with this great comedy they also provide you with action and suspense to go along with it which I felt to work out perfectly.

Do The Right Thing

This film was directed by Spike Lee and is said to be one of his best works. The main characters in this movie are Mookie, played by Spike Lee, Jade, played by Joie Lee and Salvatore, played by Danny Aillelo. These are some of the main characters but there are also many other supporting charatcers in this film.

The setting of this film is in Bedstuyvesant, New York where we follow a man named Mookie on his everyday life. The area which they are in is mostly consisted of African Americans and is an area of high crime. In this all black city we have Salvatore who owns a pizza shop and has had it here for many years. Even though he has been here many years he still gets into many conflicts with the African Americans and this leads to the main plot. Throughout the movie the racism between all of the people and the controversial actions taken by them is what really makes this movie as great as it is.

I felt that this movie was really great in that it felt very realistic. The way the film was directed made it seem like we were actually following Mookie and that it wasnt just a story being told. I also liked the fact that the plot was not introduced right away and that it was built up until the end where everything comes out. I also felt that each actor played there role substantially well and that it all fit thogether correctly. This film was combined with comedy and suspense and it kept you waiting for what was to happen throughout the film. I feel that Spike Lee did a very well job with portraying the everyday life of someone living in this area and it made you feel as if everything was very real. The one aspect of this film that I did not like as much is that at some times through the film I felt bored because of some of the unnecessary dialouge that was put in.

Overall, I felt that this was a very solid movie and I would recommend it to others. Without the minor boring parts in the movie it was overall very good and was entertaining.
